🚀 AI Agents, Agentforce, and the Future of Work
A Conversation with Mark Good
The Salesforce world is changing fast. AI isn't just a buzzword anymore — it's becoming the backbone of how we automate, communicate, and innovate. I recently sat down with Mark Good, founder of AI Force Training, to talk about Agentforce, prompt engineering, and what it means to build the next-gen workforce with AI agents.
Whether you're a Salesforce admin, a developer, or someone just trying to keep up with the LLM-fueled future, this one's for you.
🎯 What Is Agentforce, and Why Should You Care?
Mark broke it down beautifully: Agentforce is Salesforce’s latest leap into AI — not just automation, but agentic AI. Think beyond simple flows and Apex logic. We're talking about conversational AI agents that can make decisions, interact dynamically, and act on your data in real time.
"Agentforce is hard. You can spin up a demo in an hour, but getting consistent results takes deep iteration, smart prompt design, and understanding your model’s behavior." – Mark Good
At AI Force Training, Mark runs bootcamps where students — from consultants to global enterprise teams — learn how to build real working agents. It’s hands-on, and it’s practical. Not just theory.
🧠 Prompt Engineering: The New Coding
You can’t build an effective agent without mastering the art (and science) of prompting. In fact, Mark compared modern AI engineering to writing very dynamic code.
"Anthropic’s system prompt is 17,000 words long. You don’t need that, but you do need iteration. You need to test, tweak, and repeat until your agent works like it should."
Building a reliable agent is less about "if statements" and more about crafting structured, strategic instructions that guide LLM behavior. It is easy to quickly build an Agent in Agentforce, but it takes work to make them react predictably and reliably. That is where prompt engineering and guardrails come in.
🧩 Agent ≠ Automation: When (and When Not) to Use Agentforce
One of the most helpful takeaways? Don’t use agents for everything. If you can do it with a flow or Apex, stick with that. Agents are ideal for situations with ambiguity, dynamic responses, and real-time decision-making — like lead qualification or live customer interaction.
“Keep your agent close to the action. Think of it like layering. Thin, purposeful, tightly scoped. That’s where the value is.”
🆚 Agentforce vs. ChatGPT: What’s the Difference?
Can’t you just plug in GPT and skip Agentforce? Not quite.
Agentforce is native to Salesforce. That means tighter data integration, built-in tools like Flow and Prompt Builder, and seamless RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) for surfacing internal documents. It’s not better or worse than external agents — it’s just different.
"If you want a fast, focused agent on-platform, Agentforce is your friend. If you’ve got a big dev team and want to go custom, explore beyond."
🔮 The Future of Work: Are We Headed for Wall-E or Terminator?
Okay, we had some fun with this one — but Mark’s take is grounded.
Yes, jobs are evolving. Developers and writers are already feeling the shift. But it's not about losing jobs — it's about changing them.
“The most valuable people will be those who understand AI tools, know how to stitch them together, and can execute workflows creatively.”
You may not need to be a coder in the future, but you will need to think like a systems designer, a prompt engineer, or a creative process hacker.
